New ACEO - sacque dress
This kind of dress was worn in the late 1700's. I love the way the hydrangea background turned out - It's great when you plan something out in your head and then the paint cooperates. Click here to bid!

New ACEO - Nekomata
This is a nekomata - a Japanese spirit cat, recognized by her double tail. I resisted the urge to call her Kilala.

New ACEO - last trip to the beach
The weather here is amazing! It's still pleasant to go walk along the beach without bundling up - although the swimming season is past.

New ACEO - kumihimo
Here's something that I tried a long time ago, but wasn't very good at. Of course at the time I didn't bother to get the proper equipment and that really makes the difference. I'm of a mind to try again. The stand itself can be bought online (even on ebay) but can be expensive - so I'd make my own. It's really only two pieces of wood attached together with dowels.

New ACEO - mooncakes!
Here's a Chinese version of the Japanese "Tsukimi" I painted recently. The tradition originally came to Japan from China. Every year our local grocery store sells huge boxes of these mooncakes, and I've always wanted to try them so bad. But they're very expensive and I never want to shell out the cash for something I just want to try - $20 is a lot to pay for a box of beanpaste buns that only I will eat and probably not finish!

New ACEO - geisha with bat pattern kimono and obi
Japan the bat is a symbol of happiness, but it seems an appropriate thing to do coming up to October. Of course, you don't see many bat pattern kimonos today - this ensemble would date to the Edo era. Click to bid!!

New ACEO - a dream of spring
Happy friday everyone. I wanted to put this up yesterday, but my isp was down most of the day. Hope you're all having a great day. Koko ni, chotto ame ga futte imasu. It's raining here a little. It's a bit depressing. Anyway, here's my last painting of the week - a dream of spring. Much nicer in person because I used a lot of pearl medium that didn't scan well.

New aceo - oak catterfly
It's that time of year again - not quite fall, but not summer anymore, really. Where I live we have such extreme seasons that the yearly changes bring on an extreme nostalgic feeling. Especially autumn - even when you're an adult, the nip in the air brings back vivid memories of first days of school. Anyway, it's not quite fall yet, but to me the leaves on the trees are starting to look tired, and the angle of the sun is introducing coolness to the afternoons. Great news if you don't have air conditioning like me!

New ACEO - temari
Happy friday everyone! I should have done this one yesterday, but instead I took the day off to clean O_o
This little kitty's making a temari, a kind of thread embroidered ball. "Te" means hand, and "Mari" means ball. In times long past these were actually used as a plaything, but nowadays they are more considered an artwork. I've made several and they're not too hard to make if you can embroider - if you do a google search you should find lots of links and there are lots of instruction books on Amazon. I have a picture of one of my own on my computer somewhere but I can't find it right now - and it's packed away as a Christmas ornament. Anyway,

New ACEO - catteflies out for a walk!
Did anyone notice I was missing? LOL, probably not. We've been away camping, but I didn't want to advertise that my house was empty, so I only let a few people know. It just so happened that wednesday was the hottest day of the summer - ever! The actual temperature was pushing 100, but with the humidity factored in it was around 115. Whew! Luckily we were camped on a beach so we could swim and cool off. The sunscreen we bought worked well - I have only one tiny little burnt spot on one arm, that I got in the car on the way there. We were camped at Falcon Beach, which is in the Whiteshell provincial park, which I know most of you have no idea where that is. We did some hiking, some fishing, and a lot of sitting around vegetating by the fire.
I painted this before we left, but I didn't get the time to list it until now. So here we go for friday! Click here to bid!

Ok, so now I'm off to do some more laundry. If any of my pictures turn out, I'll post them - I have to charge my camera first.
