This aceo portrays a young girl holding a hagoita (battledore) watching some kites. Hanetsuki is a traditional game played by girls on New Years day, using a battledore and shuttlecock. Hanetsuki and kite flying are traditional New Year's Day activities, although they are not done much nowadays. Hagoita are still poplular though - as a collector's item, and are ornately decorated with kabuki actors or Edo Era ladies, or even modern actors and cartoon characters such as hello kitty!
Welcome to my art blog! Make sure to check back often, there will be new artwork up for sale weekly. Mostly Ukiyoe inspired critters, but all sorts of other stuff too.....
