Kiku means Chrysanthemum in Japan - and September is the Chrysanthemum festival.

New ACEO - a dream of spring
Happy friday everyone. I wanted to put this up yesterday, but my isp was down most of the day. Hope you're all having a great day. Koko ni, chotto ame ga futte imasu. It's raining here a little. It's a bit depressing. Anyway, here's my last painting of the week - a dream of spring. Much nicer in person because I used a lot of pearl medium that didn't scan well.

New aceo - oak catterfly
It's that time of year again - not quite fall, but not summer anymore, really. Where I live we have such extreme seasons that the yearly changes bring on an extreme nostalgic feeling. Especially autumn - even when you're an adult, the nip in the air brings back vivid memories of first days of school. Anyway, it's not quite fall yet, but to me the leaves on the trees are starting to look tired, and the angle of the sun is introducing coolness to the afternoons. Great news if you don't have air conditioning like me!

New ACEO - temari
Happy friday everyone! I should have done this one yesterday, but instead I took the day off to clean O_o
This little kitty's making a temari, a kind of thread embroidered ball. "Te" means hand, and "Mari" means ball. In times long past these were actually used as a plaything, but nowadays they are more considered an artwork. I've made several and they're not too hard to make if you can embroider - if you do a google search you should find lots of links and there are lots of instruction books on Amazon. I have a picture of one of my own on my computer somewhere but I can't find it right now - and it's packed away as a Christmas ornament. Anyway,

New ACEO - latest fashions!
Something I used to do a lot when I was younger - peruse the fashion mags. The history of publishing goes back quite far in Japan, and included fashion books illustrated by Ukiyoe artists. Click here to bid!
